Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Canada respects its commitments under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), and will not sign free trade agreements with non-market economies, according to Reuters. He emphasized that Canada has no intention of signing such agreements with China or any other non-market economies. Canada and China are addressing several accumulated issues from recent years by adopting a 'going back to the future' strategy in the fields of EVs, agriculture and seafood, strengthening relevant protective measures, Carney noted. These remarks were in response to US President Donald Trump's threat that if Canada reaches a trade agreement with China, the US will impose a 100% tariff on Canada.
