The HSI opened 109 points or 0.5% lower at 19,997. The HSCEI opened down 51 points or 0.7% at 7,269. The HSTECH opened slipping 49 points or 1% at 4,644.

NEW ORIENTAL-S (09901.HK) sank 15% at open. Morgan Stanley remarked that the company's quarterly results were below expectations and its quarterly outlook was weaker than its full-year guidance. EAST BUY (01797.HK) cratered 6.1% as its interim profit turned into a loss of RMB96.8 million. ZENGAME (02660.HK) expected a 35-45% decrease in its full-year profit, sinking its stock price by 5.8%.

Among other tech stocks, BABA-W (09988.HK) opened down 1.8% at $83.3. TENCENT (00700.HK) and MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) inched down 0.6%. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) edged up 0.3% to $36. SMIC (00981.HK) climbed 1.8% to $42.65. BIDU-SW (09888.HK) and NTES-S (09999.HK) dipped 0.4% and 0.8%. KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) lost 1.2%. BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) waned 2.9% and 4.6%.

As for electric vehicle stocks, BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) and LI AUTO-W (02015.HK) opened 1.2% lower. NIO-SW (09866.HK) plunged 6.6%. XPENG-W (09868.HK) slid 2.6%.

In financial stocks, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) added 0.2% to $79 at open, while HKEX (00388.HK) and AIA (01299.HK) inched down 0.2% and 0.6%.
